Baby Hummingbirds are Here!

Hi boys and girls. My friend who is an amazing photographer took this photo this week in White Rock. Soon there will be two baby hummingbirds flying around us. THE WORLD IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!

Did you know the hummingbird (often called hummers) is the smallest of birds and lays the smallest egg? They only live in the Western Hemisphere of the world, so that means they are in Canada where we live. They drink nectar from brightly coloured flowers. I am going to plant petunias in my garden for them. There is a legend that says if you are feeling sad and a hummingbird hovers near you, then you will feel happy again.

I thought you might like to listen to a funny story about a big bear and a little hummingbird called Hector and Hummingbird.  After you have listened to the story, check out the printable activity pages in case you feel like working on one at home!

If you're sitting outside in your garden at home, keep your eye open for one of the beautiful birds flying near the flowers - blink and you'll miss them!
Love, Mrs. Porter.
