MISO CROSSES CANADA (With Holden and Sawyer)

Carson Crosses Canada by Linda Bailey

HOLDEN: Why are Miso and Sawyer sitting in the front seat?
MRS. PORTER: Miso is helping me drive. He knows all the provinces of Canada.

Hi Boys and Girls: Yes! Miso does know all the provinces of Canada. That is because we read this wonderful story a lot. It is probably my very favourite book - it is about an old lady and her dog going across our amazing country in her little car. I bet you can guess why I love it so much! It is a great story and teaches you something special about each province in Canada. I hope you enjoy this clever and funny book and like the surprising ending.

UP THE CREEK!

Up The Creek by Nicholas Oldland

MINGSI: Hurray! It's Canada Week. We're going to go across Canada.
GEISHA: Do we have to walk?
MISO: I am going to ride the moose.
NORMIE: I think we are up the creek!

Hi Boys and Girls: One of the really great things about Canada is all the amazing animals that live here. Today we are going to read a story about 3 Canadian animals - Moose, Beaver and Bear. They are best friends, but as you all know, even best friends sometimes disagree over things. They argued a bit too much and a bit too loud. In fact, they argued so much they ended "Up the Creek."

Listen to the story and find out how they rescued themselves.  After you have listened to the story, you can colour a cute Canadian animal colouring page!

Aren't Moose, Bear and Beaver silly? I love how they rescued themselves.

THERE WAS AN OLD LADY

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Moose by Chrissy Bozik

MISO: Well here we are - we are finally camping. I always wanted to try.
NORMIE: I didn't like the trip very much.
MINGSI: No kidding. Next time let's drive to the lake!

Hi Boys and Girls! Do you remember that silly old lady who swallows everything - like some snow, a frog, a shell, a bell, a book and more. Well in this story she swallows a MOOSE, and a lot of other yucky things. We chose this Old Lady Story because it is very Canadian and the ending is something we like to do in Canada. Well, most of us. Mrs. Porter and her dogs are not very good at putting up a tent.

Enjoy the story, and Happy Canada Week!

Help Me, Mr. Mutt!

Help Me, Mr. Mutt!: Expert Answers for Dogs With People Problems by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel

MINGSI: How do you spell "Dear Mr. Mutt?"
MISO: What are you doing Mingsi?
MINGSI: I'm writing a letter to Mr. Mutt because our treats are too small!

Hi Boys and Girls: Mingsi has the right idea. Dogs write to Mr. Mutt to get help with their people problems, and Mr. Mutt answers their letters and gives them advice in the newspaper. This sounds great, but Mr. Mutt has a big problem of his own - a crabby cat called The Queen lives in his basement and she wants to be in charge.

After you have listened to the story, you can work on a cute cat and dog colouring sheet, or a cat and dog crossword puzzle - or you can work on both if you'd like!

Welcome to the SHAREMORE Hotel

There's a Dinosaur on the 13th Floor by Wade Bradford

MISO: Please tell me you guys don't snore.
DINOS: OH NO - We are very quiet sleepers.
MISO: I am looking for somewhere to sleep to get away from Geisha's snoring.

Hi Boys and Girls! Miso is dreaming if he thinks he will get some sleep at the SHAREMORE HOTEL.
Get it - SHARE - you have to share a room with somebody! This is also a "wildlife friendly" hotel so you can expect to share your room with some pretty interesting guests.  This hotel has something for everyboy - except poor Mr. Snore. He can't find a quiet room to get some sleep. Guess he should have been more specific when he made his reservations.

After you have listened to the story, you can work on a fun T-Rex pattern colouring sheet!

Do you think you'd want to stay in a hotel with a dinosaur? Sometimes I think I run my own dog hotel because I spend all day with Miso, Mingsi and Geisha serving them breakfast, lunch and dinner, cleaning up after them and making up their fluffy dog beds for bedtime!

Six Dinner Sid

Six Dinner Sid by Inga Moore

Hi Boys and Girls: Here is another cousin of Mingsi and Norman. His name is Sid. The reason you have not seen him before is because, 1) He is too busy eating to be photographed and 2) Dogs are a little nervous to go near his food.

I hope you like the funny story of how Sid manages to get 6 dinners every day. He is a pretty smart cat! If you like Six Dinner Sid, you might want to see what he gets up to on his next adventure called Six Dinner Sid: A Highland Adventure, which I will also include a link to.  You won't believe what happens to Sid when all his owners go on holiday at the same time! After you have listened to the stories, you can work on a Cat Breed word search and learn the names of a bunch of different cat breeds, including a Highlander like in the Sid story!

PIGS!

Pigs by Robert Munsch

NORMAN: So this is what pigs look like. Mingsi told me that Geisha is a pig because she eats all of our treats.
MISO: I think pigs are really cute. I wish I was pink!

OINK! That is pig talk for "hello Boys and Girls." Did you know that pigs are very clean animals. They only roll in the mud because they want to keep cool. They don't have sweat glands. They are also really smart and can make very good pets. If you want to see a funny pet pig, click on the link and watch Mercy Watson. I think she is my favourite pig!

After you have listened to the pig stories, you can work on a pig colour-by-number sheet. For this colour by number sheet, you will need to do some addition to figure out which number corresponds with which colour!
